What is Zcash?
Zcash is a decentralized open-source cryptocurrency that provides privacy and selective transparency of transactions.
One distinctive feature of Zcash is its ability to ensure transaction privacy. While most blockchains, including Bitcoin, record transaction details in a public ledger (blockchain), Zcash offers a feature called “shielded transactions” that allows hiding transaction information, including sender, recipient, and transaction amount.
Zcash achieves a high level of confidentiality through the utilization of zero-knowledge proof protocols (zk-SNARKs).
